Project spotlight · Durrani Court, Stoney Creek (Hamilton)

Fifteen windows, two doors — and the shutters back where they were.

A staged whole-house replacement on a Stoney Creek two-storey: triple-pane glass in every opening, an entry door that grew a foot taller, and the family's california shutters saved and re-hung. Here's a real Hamilton project from our books, exactly as we built it.

What the homeowner wanted

The whole house done — 15 windows, a sliding patio door, and a new front entry — without losing what already worked. The street- and yard-facing windows went black outside, white inside; the sides stayed white. Every unit in triple-pane 180 glass. And at the front: not a standard door, but a 42-inch by 8-foot flush black steel door with a full-height sandblasted glass lite — a foot taller than the opening it replaced.

What made it hard

  • A door that outgrew its opening. Fitting an 8-foot door where a 6'8" stood meant cutting the brick above the entry and setting a new lintel before the frame could go in.
  • Shutters saved on every window. Each work order read the same: remove the shutters, install the new window, new jamb and casing — then reinstall the shutters, fitting exactly as before.
  • Staged around family life. Seventeen openings done in phases — with "dining room last" written on the work order, because the homeowner asked and the schedule listened.
  • Two-tone, triple-pane. Black-out/white-in casements, sliders, awnings, and fixed units at the front and back; white on the sides — all in 180/clear/180 triple glass.
  • The masonry, too. Brick chipped to fit the new patio door, and mortar repairs on the side walls — finished so the stone-brick facade reads untouched.

Hamilton window replacement FAQs

Do I need a building permit to change a window or door opening in Hamilton?

Straight like-for-like replacements don't need a permit in Hamilton. If the structure changes — enlarging an opening, cutting a new one, or altering what carries the brick above — the City of Hamilton requires a building permit and inspection. When a project needs one, we handle the paperwork and build to pass.

Which parts of Hamilton do you serve?

All of Hamilton — Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Waterdown, Binbrook, the Mountain, Westdale, Kirkendall, Durand, Corktown, and Crown Point, plus neighbouring Burlington and Grimsby. We've completed 115+ projects across the city.

Can you keep our california shutters or blinds when replacing windows?

Yes. On the Stoney Creek project featured on this page, every window's work order read the same way: remove the shutters, install the new window with new jamb and casing, reinstall the shutters. The new frames and casings are sized so your existing shutters go back exactly where they were — you don't have to buy window coverings twice.

Can my front door be taller than the standard 6 foot 8?

Often, yes. On the Stoney Creek home featured on this page, the owner wanted more presence at the entry — so we cut the brick above the old opening, set a new lintel, and installed a 42-inch by 8-foot flush black steel door with a full-height sandblasted glass lite and multipoint hardware. If your entry has room above, the door can grow into it.
